How would you define the essence of your brand?
The essence of the brand lies in the balance between ease and intention. It’s all about contrasts: natural and intentional. I love creating pieces that feel spontaneous yet carry a quiet strength. It’s something that feels lived-in but also elevated and sensual. There’s always a dialogue between functionality and emotion in the way I design. I think of my collections as a wardrobe for someone who is curious, sensitive, and purely themselves.
Individuality seems to be a key element in your work. What does being unique mean to you?
It means staying close to heart, your instincts, your questions, your contradictions. I love to question traditions and habits and refresh them. The casting is part of that too: I look for people who carry something special in their way of being. It’s all about their presence and energy.
Julie Kegels’ aesthetic feels quite vintage, sometimes even nostalgic. What role does the past play in your creative process?
The past offers a sense of grounding. I often revisit images, objects, or garments that feel emotionally charged. Whether they come from my own memories, cinema, or even thrifted finds. There’s a kind of poetry in the wear of things, in what has been touched and lived. But it’s never about recreating the past, it’s about translating that feeling into the now. That’s what I strive for: it makes you dream in a happy or sad way. In fact, the past always makes me emotional.
Finally, what can we expect from you and your brand in the near future?
To keep growing and stay true to myself. To continue collaborating with people I admire and learning from every step. It’s amazing how many smart, talented people you get to know in the industry. And above all, to keep making clothes that can make someone feel more connected to themselves, even for a moment: then I feel like I’ve done something meaningful.
