He finally stopped and pulled his chair closer to her, raising her chin. “Amelia. I cannot begin to thank you for what you did. It was brave and brilliant, and it terrifies me to think that you put your life at risk for—”
“For my shipmates, Captain.” She kept her eyes lowered.
“I would never have forgiven myself if anything had happened to you.” He wiped the tears from her cheeks with his thumb.
“I would never have forgiven myself if I had not tried. These men, this ship, it has become . . . I care for them, William, for all of you.”
He raised her chin even higher, so that she was forced to lift her gaze his face. He stared at her for a moment. Then his eyes dropped to her lips, and Amelia’s pulse began to race. Would he kiss her again? They sat, frozen for a heartbeat, and then William stood, stealing with him all of the warmth in the room.

The release of Endre (Elsker Saga #2) by S.T. Bende!

Happy Thursday!

I am few days late with posting this, but better late, than never. Besides, I have read all S.T. Bende's released books and I love them!

We're celebrating the release of Endre (Elsker Saga #2) by S.T. Bende!

Endre (Elsker Saga #2) by S.T. Bende
Upper YA/NA Paranormal Romance

Sometimes, finding your destiny means doing the exact opposite of what The Fates have planned.

Winning the heart of an immortal assassin was a dream come true for Kristia Tostenson. Now she’s knee deep in wedding plans, goddess lessons, and stolen kisses. But her decision to become immortal could end in heartbreak -- not only for Kristia, but for the god who loves her. Because while Ull would do anything to protect his bride, even the God of Winter is powerless against the Norse apocalypse. Ragnarok is coming.

And the gods aren’t even close to ready.

Buy Endre on:

When I came to, my chest heaved with sobs. Cold sweat cloaked my body from my forehead to the backs of my knees. My hair was damp, my pulse was racing, and my fingers gripped the sheets so tightly my knuckles ached. I was in my room at Ýdalir, the one place I had always felt safe. Only now I was absolutely terrified.

I ripped the covers off and wrapped my arms around my legs. My nose twitched at an unfamiliar smell. I pulled the cord on the bedside lamp, and looked around to see what might be burning. There was no smoke in the room; all of the furniture seemed to be intact. But when I glanced down, I saw the hems of my pajamas. They were black, singed from the fire I’d desperately hoped had been part of a dream.

This time things had gone too far. If my smoldering pant legs were any indication, being injured in a vision could have far-reaching worldly consequences. And if Elfie had come that close to killing me . . .

Ull had his rules, but I no longer cared. I jumped out of bed and raced down the hallway. When I reached his door I pounded on the distressed wood. Tears streamed down my face but I didn’t bother to wipe them away. The downpour was too intense; it wouldn’t have done any good anyway.

The door flew open and Ull stood on the other side. He wore a loose pair of grey sweatpants and nothing else. Oh hot bejeebus. There was no way this guy was for real. It just wasn’t humanly possible to look that good.

Oh, right. Ull wasn’t human.

Despite the agony coursing through my awakening consciousness, this was a moment of glory I’d remember forever—the first time I saw Ull’s naked torso. His sweats hung low on his hips, affording me a view of the cut just above the bone.

Holy Lord.

“Kristia?” Ull rubbed the sleep from his eyes. He took in my matted hair, tear-streaked face, and shaking hands. “Great Odin. What happened?”

He pulled me to him, crushing my face against the muscles of his chest. The knot in my stomach loosened infinitesimally. Just being near Ull gave me peace, but being this near Ull was like taking a sedative. Breathing in his woodsy smell made my panic subside. And when he pressed his hands against me—one to my hair, the other against the small of my back—my gut knew I was safe. Nothing bad could happen to me so long as I was in Ull’s arms. I inhaled again, letting his familiar scent fill me from the inside until my shaking stilled. Then I pressed my lips against his skin. Hard.

“Sweetheart?” he asked again.

“I had another vision and it freaked me out. Can I stay with you?” I didn’t take my lips off his chest as I spoke. I couldn’t. He tasted divine—like spruce and soap and home. There was a very real possibility my mouth might be permanently adhered to his flesh, like a kid who’d tried to lick a frozen railing.

Only this was far less unpleasant.

Review: Say The Word by Julie Johnson

Hi all!

Something for this week!

Author: Julie Johnson
Title: Say The Word
Release date: 4th of June 2014
Reading level: FICTION – ADULT: Contemporary, Romance
Published by: Julie Johnson
Pages: 448 in Kindle e-book format
Source: Bought from for Kindle

"The heart isn’t like the liver. It doesn’t regenerate, no matter how much time passes. Once it’s gone, it’s gone for good. I’d left mine with Sebastian when I walked away that day, and I hadn’t seen it in the seven years since." — Lux Kincaid

At eighteen, Lux is forced to make a choice. One that nearly destroys her.

She breaks a boy’s heart.

She breaks her own, too.

Seven years later, Lux never expects to see Sebastian again — especially not when her career as a journalist is hanging by a thread and she’s stumbled onto the story of a lifetime. As she chases down leads and explores the dark underbelly of Manhattan, Lux will put her life on the line. But after crossing paths with a still-unforgiving Sebastian, it’s her heart she’s most worried about.

Amidst the blame and the betrayal, the hurt and the heartbreak… can two lost lovers ever find their way back to one another?

Lines will be blurred. The past will be unearthed. And Lux will find out that some secrets aren’t meant to be kept…

Unpopular opinion alert!

The synopsis was very intriguing and I took it up as soon as I had bought it. However, already during the first pages I got a feeling that it didn’t really appeal to me at all, and not because of the plot, which was as good as the description promised, but due to the style. A story can be enjoyable and awesome, but if it’s written in a way or employs techniques that I find irritating and dull, then there is little that can be saved. With this story the main reason for my dislike was the 1st person narrative with endless, pointless, irrelevant and excessive inner monologues of the protagonist.

Inner dialogue in moderation is more than acceptable and even necessary, but reading four pages of Lux eg. buying alcohol with flashbacks, overall too much telling without showing, too much description/emotion/thoughts regarding everything that happens or she comes across – it was more than I could bare and cared to know about. Especially, since I felt most stuff wasn’t remotely related to the plot or helped it move along, it was distracting, too much detail and so so random at times. I’m exaggerating now, but at one point it really felt like she would wake up and tell and continue telling in detail about her whole experience while sleeping the night before (dreams and what they meant, sleeping positions, her past sleeping habits, etc) or if she would take a pen and then tell how this pen has been a part of her and how this pen has been with her through all sort of situations and then starts talking about these situations in detail, and then suddenly starts philosophizing over the meaning of life, etc, etc. I wanted more dialogue, action and a lot lot lot less inner ramblings!

Some more regarding this issue: There was this awesome, electric, full of sexual tension scene soon after Lux and Bash met again and it was sizzling, but then she starts with her inner monologue again, you get one paragraph of that great scene with me on my edge on what will happen, and then talk on her contemplating and thinking of the past, then back to the action and then her thinking to herself again. It totally killed the explosive atmosphere! I had some issues with buying their love and attraction till that scene as well (the basis for their connection just seemed weak to me – very much like insta love), so it would have been a great opportunity for me to lessen my hesitation if done right.

Ok, enough of the negative, this book also had great aspects as well:

First, regarding the inner talk, despite me disliking it with a passion, I have to admit the author writes well. The text goes smoothly, the vocabulary is wide and vivid, sentences just flow and it’s really easy to follow.

I liked the story going back between then and now. They provided the two stories with nice breaks and upped the anticipation. The contrast between the setting and characters between when they were young and during the main story was nicely illustrated.

The latter part of the book also upped its game with action, there were some exciting moments and edge of your seat tension.

The mystery plot was something I appreciated as well, however unlikely the course of events may seem. It gave the story more substance and layers.

I have to explain my 2 star rating here a bit I guess. The book is not bad, it’s very well written with a decent plot, but I found myself quite irritated, skipping pages and waiting for the end to come because the style absolutely didn’t go well with me and it ruined the story for me. This is, however, a matter of taste and what I find annoying, others might prefer, so if you don’t mind a lot of inner talk, then don’t be taken aback by my rating and still give this a try. Overall, the feedback for the book is positive so, obviously, I’m in the minority.

2 stars!

Review: Nero by Sarah Brianne

Hi all!

It's been a long time again since my last review. Summer laziness is here!

Author: Sarah Brianne
Title: Nero
Release date: 25th of June 2014
Series: Made Men #1
Reading level: FICTION – ADULT: Contemporary, Romance
Published by: Young Ink Press
Pages: 314 in Kindle e-book format
Source: Bought from for Kindle

Nero is the king of Legacy Prep, living a life of power.

Elle is the school's punching bag, living a life of fear.

The only good girls Nero knows jump in his bed when he tells them to.

The closest Elle has come to a bad boy like him is in the cafeteria line.

The mob boss gave him orders to find out what she knows.

Her mouth is sealed.

Hmmm, not bad! I was drawn to pick this up due to the mafia trope, which for some reason I haven’t really read much about, even though, I kind of like the overly unlikely situations it usually throws at the reader and, despite it sounding completely wrong, one can’t deny that there is something intriguing and the lure of the forbidden in setting a romance in the midst of this horrible and dangerous world of crime. The supposedly tough and dependable heroine was also something to look forward to.

Some key words to explain the book:
Dominant teenager – My oh my, I think I’ve never read about such a high-level hot alpha who is still in high school. Nero takes bossy to another level, he literally forbids Elle from lying to him (and seems to have an internal lie detector to call her out whenever she tries to slip him something untrue), takes (or at least effectively tries) over her life, calls the shots, acts all possessive, etc. I had a deja vu that I was reading your typical post Fifty Shades of Grey adult romance. While slightly over-the-top and hard to see a teenager acting that way, I liked that Nero was domineering, because Elle definitely didn’t give him an easy time and that equaled some good scenes!

Mature with a capital M – Despite the characters being in school, this is definitely a new adult book targeting adults. There was torture and killing – at times quite explicit. There was also some steamy sex and loads of chemistry between the main couple.

Heroine - woman of steel – I though Elle was great! She was just incredibly tough and tender at the same time. I loved that she didn’t trust anyone easily and didn’t need a hot strong guy to swoop down and save her, she even put a fight to stop the guy. The first real conversation between Nero and her by the lunch table was epic. I only didn’t understand why she had to suffer in silence for so long, was it really because of Chloe? Then again fighting back isn’t so easy and neither is leaving. Respect to Elle!

Bullying – Disgusting, appalling, inexcusable,… it was crazy what Elle and Chloe had to endure. Again, slightly over-the-top, but I’ve come to lean that reality can be much crueler than fiction ever is. I appreciated Elle also not forgetting that no one ever stepped up to help or stop and brought this up several times.

Doormat bestie – Oh… I had such a hard time with Chloe, yes, I bet she has reasons and some horrible trauma in her past, but she was useless and, frankly, I felt that she just used Elle, unintentionally of course, but the other took every blow and fiercely protected Chloe. And what did she do? Not enough I tell you. Kudos for Elle for being so loyal though.

Blank pages – I liked the blank chapters, they were a nice and effective touch to convey the emptiness and time flying.

Food rant head! Ignore please – but it has to be said!
Ok, maybe I’m slightly nuts and overreaching (most definitely), but it drove me crazy that they were talking about pizza, tacos and other such for lunch as completely normal and the humane choice, and everyone was appalled by the other, to me, awesome and healthy food choices like chicken, etc. They made it out like standing in line for pizza was the only right decision and the other line with more quality food was torture. Obviously I have no idea what I’m talking about, but do some schools really offer pizza, etc for lunch? I remember in school getting a proper warm meal with salad and vegetables and a piece of meat or fish. Really now!

Definitely better than I expected and the rating is more to the side of 4 stars, but not quite! There was something different from other such books and since I can’t really pinpoint it, then it’s up to everyone to find out that for themselves! Recommend!

3 stars!

Support and vote for Tristan Knight! Advocate post for #NACrushTourney14 #KnightRiders

Hello my lovelies! I'm Inga, owner of Me and Reading book blog which I have been writing for 3,5 years. I am an Estonian, an avid reader, lover of books, reading, authors, publishing and blogging.
I am honored, excited and happy to participate in the NA Crush Tourney as an advocate for Tristan!

Tristan Knight just won the UtopYA Awards 2014 for The Best Supernatural Hero!

A special piece of my heart belongs to Tristan Knight from Promise by Kristie Cook. Why, you might ask. Of course, for me, it's obvious, but let me tell you! But first, I would like to introduce you to our hero, to a man who makes ladies swoon, dream, makes their hearts beat faster and wish they had a boyfriend like him.

Ladies and gentlemen, please say hello to Tristan Knight!

Hold your breath, I am just getting started! Those of you who already know Tristan, find the VOTE button below and choose Tristan! But I can assure you, you don't want to miss the rest of the presentation.

Tristan is the man who has it all - personality, looks AND brains! Who wouldn't want to have man like that? I sure would! So, let's see why you should vote for Tristan and what makes him so special! Embrace, ladies!

Let's take his looks first. Tristan is 6'3 tall, has a body of a warrior and the handsomeness of an angel. His body... OMG, his body... Imagine this: strong arms, fascinating eyes, every inch of his body shows power, masculinity and last, but not least God's ability to put all good male features and hotness which are beyond belief into one guy! Tristan!

"It wasn't right for a guy to be so incredibly attractive. Besides how tall he stood—towering at least a foot over my five-two—I noticed his hazel eyes first. They pulled me into their staggering beauty, with a wide ring of emerald green on the outside of the irises and brown around the pupils with gold specks that seemed to . . . sparkle. They were fringed with such long, dark lashes that it was unfair they were on a guy. His facial features were flawless—a square jaw, full lips and a golden suntan—better than any movie star or model. Sandy brown hair, longer on top and streaked by the sun, topped off his perfection. And then he smiled magnificently and the gold flecks in his eyes sparkled brighter, like when the sun hits gold flakes in a mining pan." - (Promise)

Not only does he own the sexiest body in the whole modern literature, he has this naughtiness and sparkle which makes women swoon and gush and  want him to be theirs.

“I showed you mine. Will you show me yours?” - (Promise)

“I couldn't wait for people to see you in that dress. Because you are with me. Forever.” He leaned closer, his lips tickling my ear. “At least let me enjoy it now, because I will have you out of that dress soon enough.” - (Promise)

"His hand cupped around my face and he gently pulled it up to his. He hesitated, still gazing intently into my eyes, his face less than an inch from mine, our noses nearly touching. The rest of the world disappeared as his eyes held mine. The sounds of the waves and the seagulls faded out so all I heard was my heart pounding and his thumb lightly brushing against my cheek. He must have heard my heart whirring like a hummingbird’s wings. He smiled and held his other hand to my chest as if to quiet it. The usual calming effect he had on me didn’t work. It sped even faster. He leaned in slightly and his lips barely touched mine. A spark jumped between us and we both flinched." - (Promise)

He also has a dark side, the special X-factor making him dangerous, letting the bitter-sweet and beautiful pain showing his romantic side. Tristan makes sure you know what love does to him and it is so incredibly, yet simply beautiful!

"Without your love, without you in my life, I am nothing but darkness.” – (Promise)

Tristan is a warrior by mind and body. He never gives up. He fights for his beliefs, he fights for everything which is good in the world and most importantly, he fights for love.

“I’ll fight for you until the end of my days.” - (Promise)

Tristan is loyal. He doesn't betray the ones he cares for. He gives all of him and then some to his cause and to his love. I think no sane (or not sane) woman wouldn't be affected by his words and actions.

"I will take care of you, honor and protect you, for as long as I live, into eternity. I lay down my life for you, Alexis, my friend and my love. Today I give to you, me.” – (Promise)

I think most of the women I know, and that includes you, my dear ladies, consider intelligence being sexy. Tristan can speak 7 languages... fluently! He's as smart as they come and he has ability to use his intelligence. He is a great strategist, making detailed plans for destroying the evil which threatens his world and his love.

Besides that, can you imagine someone whispering sweet and hot words to your ear in these foreign languages? Saying "I love you" to you in so many different ways? Told you, swoon-worthy!

Need more?! I bet you do! Let's give you some visuals from Promise, the first book in the Soul Savers Series by Kristie Cook. By the way, Promise is free and available on all the platforms - just in case you haven't read it yet. Which I believe, many of you have already, but if not, go and search for it!

There IS more! Tristan Knight has already thousands of fans all over the globe. I'm a living example of that myself. Tristan has fans from the Americas to the Australian outbacks and from the Northern cold to the Southern heat. These fans have a lot to say about Tristan and this is something I would love to share with you! Enjoy! (I surely did when I saw it!)

Alright, to wrap it up: VOTE for TRISTAN, because he is lovable and loyal, because he is hot and sexy, because he is intelligent and smart, romantic and above all, he is ALL THAT!

Thank you and keep those votes coming!

Thank you,

When she returns to the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains the lines between time and space come full circle. Will she find the courage to face the passion and pain that awaits her? Or will she run from her past, dooming them for all eternity? Allow me to share an excerpt of the story with you.

I hear his voice delivered to me by way of the wind. It swirls around me like a comforting cloak that I'm desperately in need of. My skin is chilled like ice that makes its way down to my weary bones. My feet are bare, my frock torn, my hair marred with blood as I run through the forest seeking my heart. I’m distraught as I feel it being slowly wrenched from my chest, leaving it open, vulnerable and aching.
I feel him slipping into oblivion and I won't allow it. "You can't leave me here!" I scream through a throat raw and inflamed. I care not for the pain for it is insignificant. Pain of the flesh I can endure but a life without him I cannot. Not one day, one hour nor one second will I survive without him.
I wake to the sound of my own bloodcurdling scream, my body drenched in sweat. "Shh,” a male voice whispers against my ear. But it isn't his voice, the one I so desperately long to hear. I struggle against his arms as they encompass me, holding me against his frame. Betrayal, my mind screams, you are betraying your own heart! My inspiration for this story came when I was vacationing in The Blue Ridge Mountains and came across a stunning little area that seemed to be lost in time.
In the southern high mountain valley of Fannin County, is a mountain farm community named Dial, Georgia. Founded in 1834, this charming little community hasn’t a town. What it does have is small farms and a hand full of modest homes beside the fields and river banks. This community hasn't changed in over 100 years. For me, it was like I was going back in time. I instantly fell in love with the area and knew it would be perfect for the story.

Freedom to Read Giveaway! #Win an e-book of your choice!

Happy Tuesday!

It's here!!!

Welcome to Freedom to Read Giveaway Hop! It's organized by Mary from Bookhounds and by Kathy from I Am A Reader, Not A Writer and there are more than 140 blogs participating. It means lot of chances to win for you!

I have always had a freedom to read, but I have lived in a society where there was no freedom to read specific books. So, for me, the expression "freedom to read", is important. I still remember times where books were distributed illegally and often in copied versions and translations into my own language were often rare for certain books. Luckily, these times are in the past and I do have freedom of choice what to read.

I know, that this giveaway hop is to celebrate 4th of July, which is an important date in their history. There are still few days to it, but I would like to wish you:

Happy 4th of July!

And now to the giveaway!

Ladies and gentlemen, please give a warm welcome to Mama Jo!

Reading for Enjoyment vs. Reading for Reviewing

Thank you so much for hosting my on Me and Reading!

I started out reviewing books because I wanted to tell everyone about the books I read and loved.  So when one of the review sites I follow sent out a call for reviewers, I jumped at the chance to have another venue to share my love.  That didn't work out quite the way I had planned.

At first, I just reviewed books I had already bought and hadn't read yet and that was working well for me I was happy and life was good.  Then I realized that I was starting to get behind on review books. O_o How did this happen, it’s only been two weeks and I’m already behind?!? **Queue panic attack** Some of the books that I received weren’t books I would have normally chosen to read which I though could be a good thing, you know try something new find new authors I’ll love, that kind of thing.  Oh boy, was I in for a whole new experience.

Don’t get me wrong, I have found some great new authors and have broadened my reading horizons.  Not all of these books were gems though L  I did start to notice after about six months that I was keeping up with the review books, but not reading the next installment of my favorite series or the newest book from my favorite authors.  I read roughly five novels a week (and have for years), but I was noticing that I actually was reading less and less because I needed time to put the book aside and write a review.  I don’t believe in just saying, “I love this book, buy it now” or “I hated this book and you should too”.  I try to tell you what I loved/hated and why.  What draws me into the story or pulls me out of it.  Another thing that takes time is going and pulling book info (blurb, cover art, buy links), you’d be surprised how many publicists don’t include that with the book.

This brought on “The Slump”.  I stopped accepting requests all together, and took a break at about eight months into my reviewing.  Which was a difficult time for me, because I truly love to read and I genuinely like telling others about books.  What did I do?  I talked to other bloggers and reviewers through email, twitter, and facebook.  I asked advice and just talked about how I was feeling and what I wanted out of being a reviewer/blogger.  The book blogging community is wonderful and makes the best support group in the world (at least for me).

Now I’m at the 2.5 year mark and I have a pretty good system.  I request books that I want to read and make a rule with myself to take at least two out of my “cozy reading parameters”, (books I’m sure I’ll at least like), per month.  It does help that I am only taking limited review requests.  I feel bad about being picky, but this way I am able to read for enjoyment and for review while providing a fair and honest review for my followers.

I still receive unsolicited contact, sometimes books are included, sometimes even NetGalley widgets.  I have a standard, “I’m not taking new requests at this time, but If I do review the book I will send you a link to the post”, reply.

Thanks again for having me on your site and I look forward to following the rest of the Book Blogger Buzz Tour!

MamaJo is a working wife and mother of two that is rarely seen without a book in her hand. She started reading horror novels in elementary school and from there has read some of everything.  Her favorite genres are horror, urban fantasy, paranormal romance, suspense, and romantic suspense.  You will also catch her with a contemporary or an historical romance at least once a month to "cleanse her reading palate".

MamaJo's reading preferences include UF, PNR, Suspense, Horror, Contemp, HR, M/F, M/M, and erotica.  You can find her on twitter: @kindlejo_jo

Thank you MamaJo for coming by! I do understand the challenges for reviewing for enjoyment vs. reading for reviewing. I also do review the books I'm reading for fun. Not all of them, I do prioritize because writing reviews is time consuming.

What about you, dear blogger and reader?
