Road to Tomorrow by Mary Metcalfe - Review and Giveaway!

Happy Tuesday!
Today I am participating in an awesome blog tour!
Novel Publicity presents:

My stop includes a review a giveaway and some information about the book and the author!
Let's start with my review!

My review:
I love blog tours because they give me possibility to read and review books which I might not pick up accidentally myself! Road to Tomorrow by Mary Metcalfe was an unexpected gem! It was heart wrenching and emotional read which you don't want to miss. Captivating story with interesting characters and beautiful language!
Andrea is living in a nightmare. Her husband is abusive and dangerous and Andrea is taking her two kids and escapes. When she got married to Sean, Andrea was young and did not know much about Sean's past. Sean has military background and as Adrea quickly finds out, he also has very a very nasty and violent side.
When Andrea is fleeing her husband, she has an accident and gets unexpected help from the people living in a town she ends up at.
There were many things I loved about this book. Even though the story was quite predictable, it carried a very important message - get out of an abusive relationship and do that ASAP! And in case you have children, then don't just get out of the relationship, but don't ever let you children suffer in an abusive relationship. These messages were woven into a story which gives hope! Hope, that new beginnings might be complicated, but they are possible!
I also loved how the author is bringing together people in a small society. Living in a small town can have its disadvantages because everybody knows everything and sometimes they know things about you before you know that yourself, it has one very strong quality - they stick together and help each other and others when needed. That was the beauty of this book!
I enjoyed Andrea. I know how much strengtht it takes to get out of an abusive relationship and I think the author characterized Andrea believably. Even though I have never experienced abusive relationship in a way Andrea did, I could relate to her. I understand her wish to protect her children. I cheered for her!
There were many other intriguing characters who supported the story and I think the characters, especially their actions actually made this book sweet. The issues the book dealt with were quite heavy, but the characters lightened up the plot.
Road to Tomorrow is a fast paced page turner which touches your heart. Highly recommended!

    Happy reading!

    1. This sounds like a good book. I love finding books I haven't heard of to put on my tbr list!

      1. Melanie, the same here, it's nice to read something which you haven't heard about and then getting surprised how good the book is!

    2. Thanks for your thoughtful review Inga and your kind comment Melanie. It is so true how people in small communities watch out for each other. I live in a very small community of less than two thousand people. Gossip is everywhere but, bottom line, when you need help, it's there. Cheers!

      1. Thank you Mary for writing such a good book!

    3. Wonderful review, Inga. Now I'm even more excited to read Road to Tomorrow for myself! Thank you for joining us on this tour, and please remember to cross-post to Amazon and GoodReads.

      Em :-D

      1. Thank you, Emlyn! I usually cross-posting right after the review is up.

    5. Great review. This sounds like a wonderful book, but it may be a little "too close to home" for me. My ex was a real pill. I'm not sure if reading about this subject would bring it all up or be cathartic, but it sounds so good I think I'm willing to give it a try!

      1. Thank you for your kind words! Give it a try, because the book gives hope and positive energy.

      2. It definitely looks like that, but I would also recommend you check it out. I just reviewed it as well and wrote a little more about the abuse aspect of it here:

It is a long process to heal, but having loved ones around you and talking about it as well as getting the help you need, really do go a long way.

    6. A story that will pull at my heart. A fabulous review thank you.

      1. Thank you for your comment and for coming by!

    7. What an emotional story! I hope that through this book people who are in some kind of abusive relationship will get the courage they need to escape from their relationship before their situation gets worse

      1. Thanks!
The main character gets a lot of support from people she does not even know. That was what made the book for me.

    8. Wow, I'm glad you liked the book so much! Sounds like a plot-driven emotional story with great characters.

      1. Karielle, I did and it was! Thanks for coming by!

    9. The story sounds so emotional and that's why it appeals to me.
