700 A.D. Teotihuacán, Mexico – The High Priest believed himself to be as powerful as the gods. He set a plague on the city as a demonstration of his power. The Gods took pity on the remaining loyal congregation. They granted each survivor immortality and an extraordinary ability. Three loyal survivors were given a mission of great importance: train the lone human descendant of their civilization to stop the evil priest from damning the rest of humanity.

2012 A.D. San Diego, California – The time has come to finally make Katalina Deckard aware of her destiny. Her life has been a constant struggle since the loss of her parents when she was young. But has it prepared her to save the world? Can her friends, who have survived so long, convince her she has what it takes to accept the mantle of Redeemer?

My review:

Let me start saying that when I saw the cover of the book, I was hooked! I think the cover artist has done the book justice!

The Descendant by S.J. McMillan was a great found for me! The novel is well-written, it is packed with action, love, intrigues and twists. i will be looking very much forward to the sequel of the book!

Regarding the plot:

Katalina Deckard is a woman who on the surface seems to be ordinary, is nothing but boring. The story starts with changes in Kat's life, she loses her job due to the cost cuts and she is dumped by her boyfriend - all that during one day. She meets up with her friends and ends up on a club.

The club owner Tristan is hiding a lot from Kat. He and Kat's friends know who Kat really is and what she is about to find out - Kat is Redeemer who is responsible for the future of all humans. Kat is highly disturbed when the truth is coming out, she is hurt and angry that her friends did not reveal her true self to her earlier and secondly, she hates the idea of being and becoming Redeemer. She needs some time to let the idea to be settled.

Evil is not sleeping either and Kat and her friends are challenges more than once.

I loved the story! I think the settings and the background of the story was quite unique and brilliantly created.

Regarding the characters:

Kat was my favorite character in The Descendant. Author managed to create a lovable and believable character who is beautiful, sassy and quite brave. She struggles with herself when she finds out about the Redeemer, but finds the strength within to accept it.

Kat has also a side which made her even more fascinating for me. She has an other side in her - Lina. When you first meet Lina, you will be blown away, because Lina is powerful, angry and very strong.

I also liked Tristan. He is handsome and the attraction between Kat and Tristan is created instantly, you can almost see the sparkles between them. But the relationship is quickly challenged by the past and by the present.

There are many original and quirky supportive characters, The Descendant is full of them!

The Descendant by S.J. McMillan was a great find for me! I truly enjoyed it and would highly recommend it to lovers of urban fantasy and paranormal books! You will love it!

5 Flowers!
5 stars!

Thanks for Sizzling PR who provided me with the review copy!

About the author:

I am an author signed on with Ruby Lioness Press. I am beyond excited that my urban fantasy novel, City of the Gods: The Descendant, has finally found a home.

I play many roles in life, as we all do. I am a wife to a supportive husband, a mother to three young rascals, and an administrative assistant during the week just to name a few. Now I will finally get to add published author to my list.

I started writing poetry in high school. I enjoy poetry and still write a poem whenever inspiration hits me. I love to read, especially paranormal romances and urban fantasies. The love of reading spawned the urge to try writing a novel of my own.

One of my favorite parts of writing a book is creating the characters. I immerse myself into their lives. I laugh when they laugh and cry when they cry. I cheer them on in their triumphs and encourage them in their struggles.

I have also come to enjoy writing fight scenes. Don’t laugh, but my husband (the wonderful man that he is) will act them out with me so I know exactly how I need to show it to the audience. Call us crazy if you want but it is really fun to act out a scene using a broom handle as a spear and a foam baseball bat as an axe.

I hope you enjoy City of the Gods: The Descendant. I am working on the follow up book now. I love to hear from other authors and readers. You can find me on Facebook at , on Twitter at , or check out my awesome new website at .

Happy reading!
