Wednesday Wonderings (12) - Plans for Book Expo America 2012

Happy Wednesday!

Spring has officially started and I love that I can see and feel its coming! The snow is melting, sun is shining, birds are singing - it is just beautiful. That makes me happy! I hope that you will have a wonderful and colorful spring!

Today's post is about BEA 2012.

I have mentioned more than once that I am going to US and what is even more exciting, I am going as editorial press to Book Expo America 2012! New York comes only as a side benefit. I wonder how many people in the world would think as me. Think, I am more excited about the event than the city! I am sure that once BEA 2012 is finished, I can take some time to see this big and eventful city!

I have already bought the flight tickets and I will be staying June 1 till June 14, so it is going to be two weeks: one week to BEA 2012 and to NY Book and Media Week and second week is not planned yet.

Why am I writing about it? Because I would like to use my time as efficiently as possible. I attend to take as much as possible from my visit. So in case you have any suggestions (yes, you!) or would like to meet me and my BEA 2012 blogger-buddy Maria (she is coming to help me and support Me and Reading during the BEA), I am very open to ideas and thoughts what to do, whom to interview, which booths and boxes to visit on site, which book events to visit during my stay. I am aware that many of you have had a chance to visit BEA earlier - all your advices are more than welcome.

I started make some plans about what do I want to see and whom do I want to meet there. That is the second reason I am writing this post today. I know for sure, that I will be participating in following things:

1. Entering the Javits Center
2. Going nuts over that I am actually there!!! And then feel totally lost!
3. See number 2.

:)

And after that I guess I will be realizing where I am!

OK, jokes beside, I will be participating BEA Bloggers Conference on the June 4th. From June 5th to June 7 inclusive I will spend on BEA. Evening will probably go with meeting old and new friends and visiting NY Book and Media Week. I guess that I will drop dead every night of exhaustion to wake up next morning and start again. :)

What my plans are exactly?

Well, I am not sure how many other Estonians will be there, but I think I will be one of the two who I know are going from Estonia to BEA (both of them from Me and Reading), and that is the reason I will take my task (more like a pleasure to me) seriously. Since I registered as editorial media, I will be doing press releases, interviews, photos, write articles, make vlogs and videos. Generally speaking I will spread the word of BEA in printed and audio and video media. I am trying mentally to prepare myself, that it is going to be fun and hard work at the same time.

You see, BEA for me is not only about getting access to new releases and books. For me it's so much more, it is about educating people, spreading the importance of reading and books. It might seem too ambitious, but this is really what I want. I want to meet and talk to people - be it authors, publishers, fellow book bloggers - and share the buzz from BEA to anyone who bothers to read my articles, blog etc. My vision of BEA goes way beyond my blog. Of course, I will be blogging, that is for sure, but the idea of me being there is wider. I sound like a true idealist, right?

I am just a book blogger from Estonia who believes that one person and one blog can change the world.

Let's see.

  2. Sorry, I cannot offer any advice about the conferences or the city, but just wanted to say that your plan to educate others about the importance of reading is a wonderful thing. I truly hope you have a good time and get to accomplish many of the things on your list.

  3. I live in NY, but not NYC. This is the first I'm hearing about this and I'm freaking out because I don't think I can go. Firstly, it's during the week and I have my kids to take care of, and secondly, I'm disabled and would need to bring someone with me. This expo is like a wet dream for me. I do know how excited you are. Please tell us all about it when you return.
