Fate Fixed Blog Tour - Interview and giveaway with Bonnie Erina Wheeler

Welcome to my stop at the Fate Fixed Blog Tour! This tour is organized by The Bookish Snob Promotions and by the author Bonnie Erina Wheeler. My stop includes interview with the author and giveaway. I reviewed Fate fixed couple of days ago and you can find my review here.

Ladies and gentlemen, please give a warm welcome the the author of Fate Fixed - Bonnie Erina Wheeler!

First section is about Bonnie, second section is about Fate Fixed, writing it, about characters etc, third part is about her favorites.

Part I

MR: Please describe yourself with few sentences. Who are you?

BEW: Hello Inga! Thank you for having me.

I am just a small town wife and mom from Torrington, CT. I’ve been in college for the last four years, after deciding on a whim to go back. I’ve lived in New England my whole life and have always dreamed of moving to Maine. My family is my life.

MR: What inspired you to want to become writer?

BEW: I remember telling my mom I wanted to be an author when I was in high school because I loved books so much. She told me to forget it and to become a nurse. It wasn’t until my daughter became ill and I decided to write her a novel that I decided to revisit the old dream of writing. She inspires me – my whole family does. :)

MR: Who did you want to become when you were a kid? What did you dream about?

BEW: When I was little, I wanted to be a mommy, a wife and a world traveler. I dreamed of dipping my toes in every ocean around the world.

MR: What brought you to writing? When did the idea of writing your first book formed?

BEW: Just like you, I am a lover of books! Reading YA novels, especially paranormal ones, became a hobby I could share with my oldest child. Last year, she became very ill and almost passed away. While sitting with her day after day in the hospital, I began to think about what really matters in life. I loved writing as a teen and it had been twenty years since I considered it. So, I decided then to begin writing a novel for Miranda. I didn’t think anyone would ever read it but her; it was a way to pass time while she recovered. She loved it and begged me to self-publish. When I told her my ideas for a series, she insisted I not stop.

MR: What do you do when you are not writing? Do you have any hobbies?

BEW: I love reading and going to school. I also cook for an army on the weekends. I love good smells in the house.

MR: What is the most difficult aspect of being a writer for you?

BEW: I think the hardest part for me is time management. I’m thinking of taking next semester off from school so I can enjoy the process and not feel so hurried.

MR: If you wouldn’t be a writer, what would you be and do?

BEW: I would either work at an adoption agency (I adopted my youngest!) and make families happy or I would want to work in the publishing community. I think I would enjoy inspiring young people to write.

MR: Who or what is your Muse?

BEW: Initially, my daughter was. I wanted to create characters she would enjoy knowing. I think now, it is the characters popping around in my head that keep me writing. I also listened to my favorite band nonstop while writing. They were and still are my favorite soundtrack in my head for the Erris Coven. :)

MR: Did you ever experience writer’s block when the writing process just wasn’t moving ahead?

BEW: I haven’t experienced writer’s block yet. I have experienced anxiety though with the worry that I don’t have anything to offer readers. But, I love the characters so much, I couldn’t give up on them.

Part II

Let’s talk about Fate Fixed!

MR: What went through your mind when Fate Fixed was published?

BEW: Thoughts that were part horror and part exultation! It was exciting, but scary to share something as personal as a novel with the world. The story and characters were a part of me. Letting others experience the little world I created took a leap of faith.

MR: How do you write? Do you sketch a plot first, create characters first and then starting to write?

BEW: I create my characters first and then allow the story to unfold around them. I develop these personalities and then ask myself “what if” – they kind of take over the story and I try to keep up. I work from an outline too, although I do allow room for detours.

MR: What do you think is the most important thing while writing?

BEW: The most important thing while writing, especially a big project, is to spend time every day visiting the world you create – even if it is jotting down ideas for the next chapter in a notebook. I need to stay in my story world or I have a harder time finding my way back in.

MR: Where did you get the idea for your book Fate Fixed from? How was the book born?

BEW: Well, Miranda and I love paranormal romances, and I wanted to write a book she would love. We are both romantics, so developing a love between a couple that was “fated” called to me. I believe in love that lasts forever and in happy endings. I think I fell in love with Lexie and Torin while creating them. I’m looking forward to writing more about Cian and Brooke too. There is a lot there between the two the reader doesn’t yet know. I also wanted to include vampires and werewolves for Miranda. She especially loves werewolves – but I wanted something different than what she had already read. It lead me to really explore different possibilities.

MR: Which character do you love most in Fate Fixed? Which character can you mostly relate to?

BEW: I love them all so much, it is hard to decide. Theo entertains me and he will be in the next novels. I adore Torin, too. When writing through Lexie’s eyes, my own grief of losing my mother and my daughter’s illness kept coming through. Lexie’s fears of change and wanting the best for her surviving parent touched home.

MR: I’m aware that your book is pure fiction, but I’d still like to ask: are any of the characters inspired by real persons? Do you base your fiction on some experiences you have had and people you have met?

BEW: No, they really aren’t based on anyone. After it was done and I think about my characters, I see aspects of people I know here and there. For example, my sweet husband would fight to save me the way Torin would fight for Lexie. Although – Theo’s fear of aliens came from me learning that there is a famous UFO case in that area. It was fun to add and will probably come up again form him.

MR: What was the best summer read for you this summer? Why?

BEW: I read three great authors this summer: Wenona Hulsey, Shelly Crane, and Lindsay Paige. They are all indie authors and I am so excited to be able to connect with them on social media. I think Lindsay’s “Sweetness” was a wonderful pleasure to read, because I am one of the first she shared it with. I felt especially honored to go into her world.

MR: I must ask you about new book to be published; I have understood it is a sequel to Fate Fixed. Anything you can tell us already?

BEW: Blood Twist is book two in the Erris Coven Series. It picks up right where Fate Fixed leaves off. It will be written through Torin’s cousin Braden’s point of view and Lexie’s friend Liz. (Braden Murphy knew he was going to die. There was a twist to his family secret – one that was forced upon him from the time he was a child. For years he envisioned his final days and tried to be strong enough to leave his family. Now that it was time, he was ready to make good on a deadly promise. Accept for one unexpected glitch, a raven haired beauty insisted on joining him.

Liz Sanders thought her best friend’s stepfamily was weird, but she never would have guessed they were werewolves. Now Liz must travel with a secretive half-vampire in search of a lycanthropy cure. Landing in a nest full of blood thirsty vampires wasn’t on the agenda, but neither was falling in love.

Braden is tempting, but Liz’s feelings for him are complicated. She wishes he would open up about his past and give her a reason to trust him.

Just when Liz thinks she can let her guard down, she’s forced to confront the evil that has been stalking Braden’s past for years.

Death is here and ready to destroy.)

There are five planned in the series all together and truly enjoyable to write. Soul Kissed is book three and will be released in the spring, followed by Flame Played and Fate Fallen next fall. The stories build on and explore different points of views of the characters created in Fate Fixed – especially those in the coven.

Part III – Favorites

Who is your favorite author? At the moment, my daughter. She is writing her first novel and it is a steam punk which is really cool. I also adore Christopher Pike. He’s gritty and fun!
What is your favorite book or series? The Sookie Stackhouse novels are a blast! And I am a Twilight saga person.
What is your favorite book blog you follow? I have met the best book bloggers and am so happy to call them my friends! I check twimom101 all of the time because she gave me my first review and I just adore her! http://twimom101bookblog.blogspot.com/
What is your favorite song? Hurricane by 30 Seconds to Mars. I’m a huge, nerdy fan of theirs.
What is your favorite season? Autumn! Crispy leaves and pumpkins make me happy.
What is your favorite food? Cheese! It is just so tasty and filling. A major comfort food.
What is your favorite car? Torin’s car! It is a Z28 Camaro with T-Tops and a V8 engine. They don’t make them like that anymore.
What is your favorite color? Red. My house is decorated in so much red. I like it because it is warm and spicy.
What is your favorite movie? I love Life as a House. If you haven’t seen it, I strongly recommend it. It makes me cry every time. :)
What is your favorite time of the day? I am a morning person. I love bouncing out of bed and if I have pumpkin spice coffee waiting for me, I will really get moving.
What is your favorite weather? If it is sunny and breezy (think jeans and a hoodie), I will sit on my porch and write my little heart away. :)
