I won this book when Jennifer Laurens had a release day party on her Facebook page and boy, am I glad that I did! Overprotected is genuinely a good book! I read it in one sitting.

Regarding the plot:

I loved it! It wasn’t only a YA book with romance and no content. There were several important topics what Jennifer Laurens touched.

Meet Ashlyn, a girl who was kidnapped when she was a kid and since that day her life changed into a prison. Her parents decided to protect her from every potential danger and unfortunately also from her own life. Ashlyn’s Daddy has taken way too extreme means to protect her “Princess”. Ashlyn is not allowed to do anything without having a bodyguard guarding her steps, she is not allowed to go out, date, have friends, call to whom she wants – everything, basically each step she takes is controlled.

After her last bodyguard is fired, Ashlyn hopes that her Daddy will not hire more companions to her, because she is about to become18. Things do not go as she wants.

Meet Colin, 22 year old young man who is Ashlyn’s next bodyguard hired by her dad. Colin and Ashlyn knew each other from their childhood and from that time Ashlyn hates him – he bullied her when they were children. Now Colin is good looking, polite and sweet young man who takes his job protecting Ashlyn very seriously. Ashlyn falls for her, but it is too complicated because Colin is hired by his Daddy.

There are other problems hiding under the surface, Ashlyn’s parents relationship is breaking and more things from the past are coming out – things which both Ashlyn’s father and mother have hiding from her – again to protect her.

Ashlyn was really well written – I started to like her from the very first pages. She was vulnerable and I loved how Jennifer Laurens developed her throughout the story. She started up not being able to gain her freedom and ended as a strong independent young woman fighting for her rights for freedom and made herself heard.

I adored Colin! He was such a sweet guy. I loved when he protected Ashlyn from her Daddy; that he spoke up when he did not agree with Charles. He was a perfect fit for Ashlyn, exactly a guy whom she needed.

Daddy/Charles – Jennifer Laurens created him in a ay that you couldn’t help yourself getting angry about Ashlyn’s Daddy. I was so furious at some points while reading and ended up feeling pity for the guy. What kind of dad does these sorts of things to his own daughter? It was on the border to be sick.

Overprotected was easy to read, the plot was interesting, characters captivating – Jennifer Laurens did an excellent job!

Loved this book! It was a pleasure to read it.

5 stars out of 5.

Thank you Jennifer for the book!
