Lover Unleashed by J.R. Ward

Lover Unleashed (Black Dagger Brotherhood, Book 9)
So far I have liked all the Black Dagger Brotherhood books, and this book is no different. Even though this book was supposed to be Payne and Manuelo's story, it seemed to be more an update of Vishous and Jane. I actually liked the fact that author continued to write about V and Jane!

Goodreads review: Goodreads review

Payne is a sister to Vishous and she has been kept imprisonment by their mom, the Scribe Virgin. While sparring with the king Wrath, she has an accident and breaks her back which is the worst thing what could happen to a spirit like Payne. Her sparring sessions with Wrath has so far been the only freedom what Payne has known. After the accident she feels that her life is not worth living and she asks Vishous to end her days. V can't do that to her sister and brings Dr. Manny Manello to operate on her. He is an excellent surgent and he also fells for Payne. He saves her in more than one way.

I think that Payne and Manny's story was nice to read, but it was too flat, there are so many things that author left open and that she could go much more in depth with. Maybe she wants to keep it to her nexts books, but I doubt that. Their storyline was too short, too quick, too obvious and too easy. Of course, as said earlier,  I liked that author used so many pages for V and Jane, because their story is one of my favorite.

V and Jane are getting into relationship problems and I loved the way how writer described it. I was glad to see thaat V and Butch also get some kind of solution to their complicated friendship. I think these are the reason why I liked the book. That saved the book for me.

I also enjoyed new chracters appearing, Xcor was one of them. Hopefully author will write a book about him too.
I also missed Qhuinn and Blay story, it needs to have some kind of ending.

I would give 4 stars out of 5 to this book and only because of V and Jane!
