Interview with Lisa Sanchez - the author of The Hanaford Park Series and Obsessed

Ladies and gentlemen!

Please welcome one of my favorite new authors - Lisa Sanchez! Lisa is author of Eve of Samhain and Pleasures Untold from the Hanaford Park Series and the author of Obsessed. Lisa was so kind and agreed to give ma an interview and I was so happy when she accepted. Lisa, thank you so much!

Lisa also agreed to give one copy of her book Pleasures Untold to one of the readers. You will found details for the giveaway below. But let's start with the most important part first. Dear readers, I give you (drum rolls....) the fabulous author Lisa Sanchez!!!

Part I

I: Please describe yourself with few sentences. Who are you?

L: Oh, boy! Here we go! My name is Lisa, and I’m a wife, a mother, an author, a taxi driver, a nurse, a cook, a maid and an enforcer most days.

I: What inspired you to want to become writer?

L: I’ve always enjoyed telling stories. I’ve had a creative flair ever since I was a young girl. When my youngest started school full time, I decided to give the writing thing a go.

I: Who did you want to become when you were a kid? What did you dream about?

That’s a good question. My mother certainly had ideas for me. She envisioned me as the next Erma Bombeck (I absolutely loved If Life Is A Bowl Of Cherries, What Am I Doing In the Pits?) but I honestly don’t remember having one person I wanted to model myself after. I mean, sure, I of course wanted to be just like Jaime Sommers (Bionic Woman) and Wonder Woman, and kick ass and take names. But then, didn’t most girls?

I: What brought you to writing?

L: When did the idea of writing your first romance book formed? My BFF called me one day and started raving about this new YA series she’d read, telling me how I’d be hooked and wouldn’t be able to put the books down no matter how hard I tried. Of course, she was talking about Twilight, and she was right, lol! The writing bug bit me hard after that.

I: Why did you decide to write romance books?

L: I love the romance genre. I’ve tried to enjoy other types of books, but have never been able to derive the same type of enjoyment. It’s all about romance for me!

I: What are the advantages and disadvantages of being a romance author?

L: I don’t see any disadvantages of being a romance author. I work from home, create stories I love and get to share them with the world. Sounds like an awesome job to me!

I: What do you do when you are not reading and writing and blogging? Do you have any hobbies?

L: I’m a cheer mom to the core. My three girls are all involved in All Star cheerleading, and I’m their biggest fan.

I: What is the most difficult aspect of being a writer for you?

L: Managing my time. Now that I have a few books out, I find it’s a constant struggle to balance my time on social media with my writing.

I: If you wouldn’t be a writer, what would you be and do?

L: I’m a wife and a mother first and foremost. Both are rewarding jobs that take up a majority of my time. So, if I wasn’t writing, I’m quite sure my girls would find even more things for me to help them with, lol!

Part II

I have read all your published books and I have to admit that you are becoming an author whose new books I will wait with big interest. So, let’s talk about your books, both the Hanaford Park Series and Obsessed.

I: Where do you get the ideas for your books from? How did the Hanaford Park Series born?

Eve of Samhain (The Hanaford Park Series, 1)L: The idea for Eve Of Samhain came about when I entered the first chapter in a short story contest. I fell in love with Quinn instantly, and knew I needed to finish his story. I didn’t plan on a series, at first, but Martha…well, she kept pestering me and wouldn’t shut up. I knew at that point each of the girls needed their own story.

I: Which book did you enjoy writing most: Eve of Samhain or Pleasures Untold? Why?

L: Argh! That’s a tough question! I enjoyed writing both books, and for different reasons. Quinn stole my heart from the get go. I loved him, loved his story arc and loved that he changed from a pompous ass to a good guy, all because of love. His HEA was particularly sweet to write. As for Martha, well…she’s a kick ass beast! I love how strong, yet vulnerable she is. It was a blast writing her fight scenes and getting inside her head.

I: Did you ever experienced writer’s block when the writing process just wasn’t moving ahead?

L: I’ve blogged about this a few times. I write in bursts. I can put large amounts of words on paper in a short time, but then need to break to refuel my muse. When I try to deviate from this, or, if there is a stressor in my home life, the words don’t come as easily. I’m not sure this would classify as writer’s block. If words don’t come for me, it’s because I’ve deviated from what works for me.

I: Which character do you love most in your Hanaford Park Series?

L: Ahhh! You’re killing me, Smalls! In protest of this difficult question, I will answer with my favorite out of each book so far. I feel I need to preface my answer with the fact that I love ALL my characters. Some just shine a bit more than others. From EOS, I love Quinn. From PU, I love Martha, and from book three, I love Gabriel.

I: Is it difficult for you to write sex scenes?

Pleasures Untold (The Hanaford Park Series)
L: Hee hee…no. I’m actually kinda good at writing shmexy times, which is funny as I’m really quite shy. As my mother always says “It’s those quiet ones you have to watch out for!”

I: Your male heroes in the Hanford Park series have some kind of specific identify – Quinn is originally with Irish heritage and Xan with Spanish heritage. I loved when these two guys were talking using their roots and language, it made them extra cute in my opinion. Is there any specific reason why your male characters in Hanford Series have Irish and Spanish background?

L: I’m a huge sucker for Irish and Scottish accents! My mother is a Campbell, so I’ve got a lot of Scottish blood running through my veins, Irish too. When I was looking for a mythical creature to base the book on, the Irish legend of the Gancanagh was too awesome to pass up. As far as Xan, and his Spanish background, well…who doesn’t love a shmexy Latin hero? I know I can’t pass one up. I married one :)

I: Where do you get the inspiration from for your hot and sexy characters?

L: I draw inspiration from just about everything. A lot of the dialog and goofy situations are spin offs of things that have happened to me, or my friends. As for the hot descriptions of the leading men? Let’s just say I have a very vivid imagination :)

I: Obsessed is so far the latest published book and it is purely romance book with no paranormal aspect in it. Why did you make a jump from paranormal romance genre to fictional romance?

L: The answer is simple: The characters and the story idea wouldn’t go away! I’m married to a police officer, so I hear about a lot of unpleasant things on a daily basis. The idea for Obsessed popped into my head and refused to be ignored. I stopped trying to fight it and just went with it.

I: How long time did it take for you to write all three books?

L: Eve Of Samhain took four months, Pleasures Untold, six months, and Obsessed about six months.

I: Do you know how many copies of these three books have you sold already?

L: Um...yes and no? Honestly, I’m not really sure of what my grand total in sales is so far. This is, of course, my own fault. I get monthly statements from my publisher with a detailed account of what I’ve sold. I’ve just never bothered to tally it all up.

I: I must ask you about new books to be published. I have understood that next book will be from the Hanaford Park Series. What will it be about? Anything you can tell us already?

L: Book three in the Hanaford Park series focuses on Taylor and Gabriel. If you’ve read Pleasures Untold, you know she gets sent back in time at the end of the book. If you’ve paid attention, you also know there is something going on between her and Gabriel. Taylor’s book is a bit different from the first two in that we get to see things from more than one POV. Yay! We get to see inside Gabriel’s head as well. Ahem…cough, sputter…both Gabriels…ahem.
