Audiobooks - Am I the only one who doesn't know how to listen to them?

Happy Good Friday everyone!
Before I come to the topic I wanted to write about, I would like to say welcome to all my new followers. I am glad that you are here and I sincerely hope that you will find something interesting here for every single one of you.

The 7 Habits of Highly Effective PeopleI just finished reading an article about audiobooks. It seems that many readers and also writers like to read through listening by using audiobooks. I have to admit, that I have only once listened to audiobook and had difficulties with it. The book was written by Stephen R. Covey - The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. First I read his book and then I received his audiobook, too. I really wanted to try listening an audiobook. I was not very successful with it and after that I have never bought audiobooks.

I loved his book, so it has nothing to do with the content of the book. When I started listening the audio version of the book, I was driving a long distance from one end of the country to another. I simply couldn't concentrate. Instead of losing myself into the book, I lost myself in my own thoughts. I had to rewind the audiobook again and again, because I could not follow it. Maybe the distractions came from the beautiful nature which was outside of my car, maybe something else. Two years later, I still have this single audiobook, but I have never listened it to the end.

So my question to you is, how do you do it? When do you listen to audiobooks? Do you do something else in the same time?

If you have any tips, what is the good way of listening the audiobook, let me know. I have seen so many people listening audiobooks and enjoying it a lot. So share your thoughts with me. If you have any audiobooks, that you would recommend, let me know.

  1. I've listened to them in the car, I have to make myself concentrate because my thoughts drift as well. The audiobook has to be REALLY good for me to do this.

When I listen best is when I'm on the treadmill getting my exercise. Nothing else to do, don't want to think about the body pain.

  2. Hmm, maybe I should try audiobooks while exercising. Haven't tried that yet! I usually listen to the music.
    Thank you for your comment!

  3. I can't do them either. I tried to do them while running but I get so distracted. Maybe if I was running on a treadmill instead of outside?

Some people, I think, just aren't audio in-takers. I can only take words in through my eyes.
